MEL DAY's medium is wire, which she began to use many years ago as a way of liberating the drawn line into free space. Having worked two dimensionally with the medium for some time, her work is now more sculptural. Themes that are recurrent include 'Man as a Natural Being' and our relationship with the natural world. She has a great love of birds and is also inspired by storytelling and mythology, often creating her own visual narratives. Originally she studied Illustration and also worked in Textile design, window display and venue dressing. Her work conveys thoughtful ideas while revealing skill and humour.
